Engelbrecht is an aging teddy boy, and collects records from his prime years; Marlene lives in a nearby apartment and she is lonely and has designs on Engelbrecht. He hates dogs, and is running a small crusade against them, and the younger generation seems to be thinking about nothing much else but sex.

Peggy Rosinski lives in a shabby neighborhood in Frankfurt/Oder. The patchwork mom has three children, but only one of them is from her current husband Torben. She also works two different jobs to make ends meet and reduce her mountain of debt.
